Sample Guard Enclosure for Transformer Oil Sampling and Nitrogen Service
Power On. Cabinet Closed. Condition Known.
Sample Guard is an external access system for oil sampling and nitrogen service on pad-mounted and other compatible cabinet-style liquid-filled transformers.
It extends the transformer’s oil-sampling and nitrogen-service access points to an external enclosure. Once installed, both tasks can be completed while the transformer remains energized and the main cabinet stays closed.
Benefits of External Oil Sampling and Nitrogen Service Access

How the Sample Guard Enclosure Works
Standard Sample Guard units extend the transformer’s oil-sampling and nitrogen-service access points to an external enclosure.
- A technician accesses the required connection without opening the main transformer cabinet.
- Oil sampling or nitrogen service is completed while the transformer remains in service.
- Oil samples can then be sent for laboratory testing, historical trending and diagnostic interpretation.
Built for Field Installation
Sample Guard is designed for field installation on compatible transformers.
- NEMA 3R-rated enclosure
- Powder-coated finish
- Stainless-steel enclosure option
- Select color options
- Mounting and installation hardware included

Frequently Asked Questions About Sample Guard
What types of transformers can use Sample Guard?
Sample Guard is designed for pad-mounted and other compatible cabinet-style liquid-filled transformers. Final fit and installation requirements depend on transformer design, existing connections and site conditions.
Can Sample Guard be added to an existing transformer?
Yes. Sample Guard can be retrofit onto compatible transformers already in service or installed before the transformer is placed into operation. Installation requirements depend on transformer design, existing connections and site conditions.
Can Sample Guard be installed before a transformer is placed into service?
Yes. Sample Guard can be installed at a transformer factory or during other planned work before the transformer is placed into operation.
Can transformer oil be sampled without taking the transformer out of service?
